Tips on How to Invest in the Stock Market
on September 18th, 2011 at 3:14 amThe stock market is what most people think about when they think about growing their wealth, but learning how to invest in the stock market is not as easy as it sounds. After all, everyone is playing the same game and there are winners and losers.

Now, before you get down on stocks you should know that it is not a zero sum game. What I mean by this is it is not like gambling at all, where some people have to lose in orders for other to win. Rather, investing in stocks is about putting money behind companies and investing in these businesses.
When the businesses you invest in do well, so will your returns. If we are in a time of economic growth and expansion, nearly everyone in the market can profit. It’s not like investing in the stock market is necessarily a losing proposition. You really want to be able to trust the companies you are investing in can actually use your money wisely in order to grow their business.
Basically, when a company goes public, they are looking to sell a portion of their company in exchange for money. They hope that this money can fuel their growth to increase their total value even more, even though they have sold part of the company. Investors are also hoping that the company can use their money well so that their share of the company will become more valuable.
Once a company goes public, portions of that company are basically sold on the open market. That is what the stock market really is. You are bidding on pieces of a company that have typically already been sold long ago.
What this means is that if you decide you want to invest in a certain stock, and the company is really strong, odds are you will be paying a premium for that price. The company will then have to do something spectacular in order for that price to move up significantly.
Instead, a good strategy is to find good companies which are stuck in a tight spot due to changes in economic conditions or events which they can overcome and come out stronger.
