Chesapeake Caledonian Pipes and Drums logoThe Chesapeake Caledonian Pipes and Drums was founded in 1985 to provide the very finest in Scottish and Irish bagpipe and drum music. Since that time the band has appeared in parades, concerts, musical competitions, and other performances throughout Maryland, the Mid Atlantic region and neighboring Canadian provinces.

Among the band’s annual performances are St. Patrick’s Day parades in Ocean City and Baltimore, the Chestertown Tea Party Parade, and the Independence Day parade in Woodstown, New Jersey. Each year the band appears in concert at the Maryland Renaissance Festival and in Annapolis on New Year’s Eve. In 2006, 2007 and 2008 the band finished in first place among all bagpipe bands marching in the Baltimore St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The Chesapeake Caledonian Pipes and Drums is sponsored by the Robert Burns Society of Annapolis and associated with the St. Andrew’s Society of the Eastern Shore. The band wears the Ancient MacDonald tartan. The band’s logo, depicted on its bass drum, combines the rampant lion of Scotland and the arms of the state of Maryland. A Maryland blue crab, symbolic of the Chesapeake Bay region, serves as the band’s cap badge. The band is under the overall direction of Pipe Major Robert Wallace of Annapolis.

Clones of Funk

clones of funkIn 1989 a group of fans and musicians, dedicated to the music of Parliament and Funkadelic held a Funk Mob Reunion in Annapolis, Maryland.  The reunion went on to become an annual function. In 1990, George "Dr. Funkenstein" Clinton, having heard of the band, was invited to witness his clones. Being moved by the talent of the band, George joined in the performance.  A few years later, he invited the band to play for his birthday party in New York City.  George continues his high regard for this group, and his wish to “get in the studio with you guys” was granted in November 2000.  George brought members of his P-Funk Allstars to mix vibes with the Clones of Funk with the session ending after dawn.

The Clones have recently released a CD with two original singles, “Funky Ones” and “Dedicated to the P.”

Still based in Annapolis, the band has been the featured band at the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park, and have wowed the crowds at the Kunta Kinte Festival of African Heritage, First Night Annapolis and at the Summer Concert Series at Fort Dupont Park, in Washington, DC.

The Clones have played many clubs in the area and have opened for Mandrill in 2006 and for Lakeside and the Bar-Kays in 2008 at the Carter Barron Amphitheater with enthusiastic response from the Washington, D.C., crowds.  In 2007 they were part of the Safeway Barbecue Battle in D.C.  Labor Day weekend 2008, they participated in the Kipona Festival in Harrisburg, Pa.
