December 28, 2009—Annapolis, MD—New Year’s Annapolis organizers announced they are going in a “new direction” for this year’s countdown to 2010. In keeping with the city’s love of all things nautical, New Year’s Annapolis will drop a compass at the stroke of midnight on City Dock in historic downtown Annapolis this New Year’s Eve to “Bring 2010 Into Port”.
“New Year’s Eve is a time when people make resolutions and decide what direction they will go in for the New Year, making a compass the perfect fit for the countdown,” said Ayrianne Parks, spokesperson for New Year’s Annapolis. “Last year we dropped a sailboat to welcome 2009, but we thought it would be fun to drop something new this year.”
Badges for the event are now available at local Giant stores. The badges may be purchased for $13 for adults and $10 for Kids 6-12 (5 and under are free) and seniors 60 and over. We will also be selling them on New Year’s Eve for $15. Badges can also be purchased online, and with the support of ARINC, our community sponsor, New Year’s Annapolis is donating $2 of every ticket purchased online to a charity chosen by the purchasers. Local charities include: Annapolis Chorale, Annapolis Opera, Box of Rain, Chesapeake Children’s Museum, Colonial Nursery School, Creating Communities, EYC Foundation, Foundation for Community Betterment, Girls on the Run, Light House Shelter and St. Mary’s Parish.
The badge provides access to the celebration, which will include two dazzling displays of pyrotechnics: an early show at 7:30 p.m. for families and early-risers, and a traditional midnight spectacular to ring in 2009, both sponsored by ARINC. New Year’s Annapolis will also feature The Last Race of 2009, sponsored by Fleet Feet Annapolis and an action-packed schedule of events with something for everyone, including a battle of the bands, comedy club, ice sculpture demonstrations, the WNAV Karaoke Contest and great live performances by Clones of Funk, Rob Levit, Annapolis Chorale, Jack Julius Magic, The Broadway Singers and a special appearance by Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants.
New Year’s Annapolis proudly sponsored by ARINC, The City of Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Buck Distributing, Mills Fine Wine & Spirits, Fleet Feet Annapolis, Bay Weekly and Chesapeake Music Guide, Watermark, WNAV and WRNR.
